Kendriya Vidyalaya (in Hindi : केन्द्रीय विद्यालय) is a system of Central Government schools under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The system came into being in 1962 under the name "Central Schools" and has been affiliated with CBSE since then. Later, the name was changed to Kendriya Vidyalaya.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Maithon Dam came into existence in 1985 under the sponsorship of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). It is located in the picturesque township of DVC near the bank of Barakar river, over which the Maithon Dam is constructed in 1957 for the generation of Hydroelectricity. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan envisaged it as a great center of learning for the children of the employees of DVC, Maithon. The Vidyalaya comes under the jurisdiction of KVS, Regional office, Ranchi.

The quality of education by highly educated teaching staff and self disciplined habits inculcated in the children are the focus to attract admission in this prestigious institution. It is a co-educational from I to XII institution.
